Ubuntu Bionic Beaver-based Ubuntu MATE released version of the Raspberry Pi in version 18.04. Ubuntu MATE officially released two independent images of arm32 (ARMv7 32-bit) and arm64 (ARMv8 64-bit), optimized for the Raspberry Pi, mainly supporting Raspberry Pi Model B 2.3 and above.

The official introduction of Ubuntu MATE for the Raspberry Pi provides a complete, familiar desktop environment for basic desktop computing, and it’s also fun for manufacturers and device hackers who want to target Ubuntu as a project.

Developers can prototype home-made ARMv7 or ARMv8-based IoT devices in a comfortable desktop environment, including applications built and tested as snaps. In addition to these, Ubuntu MATE also adds Steam Link support for the Raspberry Pi version, and users can choose to install the “My World” Raspberry Pi version.
