A photo of an alleged AMD Ryzen desktop app has appeared. The chip is said to have 8 cores and 16 threads based on the Zen 2 architecture. The chip also reportedly includes a Vega GPU with 8 compute units. It is not known when the app will be officially announced.

First shown by tech site VideoCardz, the Ryzen 7 4700G is said to be AMD’s first APU with 8 cores and 16 threads. AMD’s current apps contain up to four cores with SMT. The chip is based on AMD’s Zen 2 architecture, which uses TSMC’s 7nm process. The current desktop apps from the American chip manufacturer contain Zen + cores on a 12nm process.

Earlier this week, igor’sLAB, a German tech site, released the suspected specs for AMD’s upcoming Renoir apus. A chip with model number ‘100-000000146’ was also mentioned in this list. This number is also mentioned in the shown Ryzen 7 4700G. Judging from that list, the 4700G gets a clock speed of 3.6GHz with a turbo frequency of up to 4.45GHz. Those clock speeds largely match the specifications of the Ryzen 7 3700X. The top is 65W, just like previous Ryzen desktop APUs and the 3700X.

The new app also contains a Vega GPU with 8 compute units, which run at a clock speed of 2.1 GHz. Previous Ryzen APUs include graphics chips with up to 11 compute units. However, according to VideoCardz, AMD has stated that the GPU in the Ryzen APUs will be faster due to optimizations, despite the lower amount of CUs. According to rumours, the GPU in the Renoir chips will at least be clocked higher. Current desktop apps have a maximum GPU clock speed of 1.4GHz.

AMD has not yet officially announced the ryzen desktop apus itself. The recommended price of the Ryzen 7 4700G is currently not yet known. The release date is also still unknown.
