The next iPhone 12 (tentative name), which is scheduled to be released this fall, will be equipped with a chipset manufactured using the first 5-nm process.

On February 2, the main foreign press reported that TSMC, the world’s largest foundry company, will begin mass-producing chipsets for the next iPhone in Q2.

Reportedly, the A14 Bionic chip on the next iPhone 12 series will be produced exclusively through TSMC’s 5-nano extreme ultraviolet (EUV) process. The foreign press said that up to two-thirds of TSMC’s 5-nano production lines will be used to manufacture A14 chips.

The iPhone 11 series, which is currently on sale, is equipped with a 7nm A13 Bionic chip, which is 20% better than the previous one. If the A14 Bionic chip is produced in the 5-nano process, the chip density is expected to improve further, further improving power efficiency and performance.

TSMC is also expected to produce the next generation Kirin chipset developed by Huawei in the 5-nano process.
